HARVEY BRANTON

It is with broken hearts we, the friends and family of Harvey Branton, announce his passing on December 31, 2024, at age 70. Predeceased by his parents, Caleb and Sarah Branton, his brothers, Ray, Doug and Eldridge Branton, and his sisters Viola Colbourne and Irene Boynton as well as his sister-in-law Doreen Branton. His brothers-in-law Ern Colbourne, Charlie Russel and John Antle and his mother-in-law Elsie Antle.

Leaving to mourn is his loving and devoted wife Pauline, his three stepsons Donny (Lisa) Jarvis of Corner Brook, Christopher (Pam) Jarvis of BC and Chad (Nikki) Jarvis of Texas. His twelve grandchildren who he adored: Gabby, Nathan, Carter, Jillian, Tyson Harvey, Donny, Amelia, Riley, Ava, Jack, Luke and Levi. His sister Florence (Brendan) Lynch and his brothers Eric (Jocelyn) and Leslie. His sisters-in-law Grace Branton, Marilyn Branton, Laura Antle, Joanne Antle, Gail (Harry) Edwards, Brenda Antle and the extended Antle family. His brothers-in-law Bob Boynton and Ed (Valerie) Antle. Many nephews and nieces that he loved dearly. His special nephews Paul Colbourne, Warren (Rhoda) Branton and Glen (Juanita) Branton and their daughter, Dr. Sarah Branton, whom he was so very proud of. His special nieces: Susan Nicholl and all of Doug’s girls : Sharon, Gail, Denise and Patsy. Many cousins including the Wally and Bowen families in the U.S.

Many, many friends including Gudren and Dave Williams and all of the Williams family of St John’s who he was very close to.

Special thanks to his caregiver and friend, Janice (Gord) Lutz, whom he adored. And to his longtime family doctor, Dr. Randy Smith. To the Kidney and Cardiology Team and Eastern Health Palliative Care Unit, especially Nurse Derek Tucker.

Harvey was a journeyman and electrician, by trade, and a proud member of Local 2330. He had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a servant of God all of his life. He said, “God bless you” to everyone and he was a man of integrity. He had the gift of putting everyone that he met at ease.

He will be waking at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue in St John’s, on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The wakes will be held from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

He will then return to his beloved home, Thornlea, to Faith United Church where he will wake on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1-4pm and 7-9pm.

The funeral service will be held at Faith United Church, in Thornlea, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to his hometown church, Faith United Church in Thornlea, or the church that he attended while living in St John’s, The Crossing Church at 314 Topsail Road. Or help a needy family. Or give someone a hug.

October 1, 1962 – December 22, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Merrill Edward Power on December 22, 2024 at the age of 62.
Leaving to mourn his loss, his loving wife of forty three year, Doris Power (Branton); and their three daughters Angela McNamara (Chris), Melissa Levitt (Daniel) and Holly Power, He was a proud papa to nine cherished grandchildren; Noah, Abby, Benjamin, Sarah, Adele, Lucas, Harmony, Aryan and Izzy.
He will also be greatly missed by sisters Marina O’Flaherty, Deborah Butt (Albert), Beverly Penny (Ray), as well as only niece Lisa O’Flaherty, and Aunt Dos and Uncle Fred.
Predeceased by his parents Edward and Elsie Power and his brother in-law Jamie O’Flaherty.
He leaves behind a wide circle of many dear family members and friends from Newfoundland and Ontario.
Merrill worked as a heavy equipment operator throughout his life, starting with the family’s business, Power’s Trucking and ending with Facca Inc. in Ontario.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Carbonear General Hospital and the Health Science Center for all their compassionate care during this difficult time.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday January 7th 2025 at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne, Newfoundland. A prayer will take place at 11:00 AM followed by visitation until 2:00 PM.
Cremation has taken place.
