Ruby Charlotte Mercer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ruby Charlotte
Mercer (nee Thorne from New Harbour). Ruby passed away peacefully, surrounded by
family at Carbonear General Hospital on October 29th, 2019 at the age of 83.
She was predeceased by parents George and Mae Thorne, grandmother Melinda Thorne,
beloved husband of 58 years Emerson Mercer, son George Mercer, grandson Stephen
Hillier and son in law Harve Hillier.
Left to celebrate her life are daughters Maxine, Brenda, Lois (John), Sandra, Darlene,
Lorraine (Kevin) and son Don (Tina), 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, daughter-in-lawFlorence, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Ruby was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid reader, a
talented knitter and a long time member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association
(LOBA). Ruby loved being outdoors, camping, gardening and spending time on the beach.
She loved her cats and playing cards with family, but what brought her the most joy was
spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Carbonear General Hospital for their
kindness and compassion in Ruby’s final days.
Resting at Holloway`s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation for family and friends to take
place from 1-9pm on Wednesday, Oct. 30th, 10am-9pm on Thursday, Oct. 31st and
10am-12pm on Friday, Nov. 1st.
Funeral Service will take place at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne at 2pm
on Friday, November 1st.
Gone, but forever in our hearts.
Flowers are welcome, or a donation can be made to the Ruby Mercer Memorial Fund, or to
the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation in her memory.

Terance (Terry) George Rose

 Terance ( Terry) George Rose
October 29, 1954- October 28, 2019
With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of Terance (Terry) George Rose on October 28, 2019, age 64 years.  Predeceased by his father, George, sister, Shelia and brother in law, Roger.
Leaving to mourn, the brightest light of his life, his wife Shona of 31 years. His four daughters, as he lovingly referred to as “his girls”, Terri Lynn (Todd), Jennifer ( Roben), Chantal (Brian) and Kaitlyn.
Five grandchildren, who were his pride and joy,  Ryan, Evan, Dylan, Isabelle and Layla. His mother, Anita and sister’s, Lorraine ( Gerry), Una ( Keith), brother, Dennis and brother in law, Frank.
His in laws, Carrie and Stewart and sister in law’s, Joanne ( Dean), Beverley, his nieces and nephews along with a large circle of close family and friends.
Terry found joy in the simple things in life;   He loved spending time with his family and friends and in the outdoors, especially fishing. He was a hard worker who dedicated over 30 years of service to NL Power and proudly continued his career as a business manager with the IBEW 1620.
We could not have asked for a better husband, father and son. He will be lovingly remembered by those who were fortunate to be a part of his life and he will remain forever in our hearts.
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Sean Murphy for his personal touch during this difficult time.

Beulah Rebecca Newhook (nee Pretty

Beulah Rebecca Newhook (nee Pretty) passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on October the 25th 2019, surrounded by her family.

It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our beautiful  Mom.

Beulah was predeceased by her beloved husband Garfield, sister Velma and her three brothers Rex, Gerald, and Ted.

Mom always had a beautiful smile that would light up the darkest room, and her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was beyond measure. She always loved company, a game of crazy eights and relentlessly searched for corky in The Downhomer.

Mom  loved her visits with her lifelong friend Gladys Newhook, and their many, many phone conversations were filled with laughter.

Mom  was also blessed with another very special person in her life; Floss Newhook was like another daughter, and we cannot thank you enough for the many sleepovers, cooked dinners, delicious muffins and chats you would have with her. She loved you.

In recent years, Mom received outstanding care from wonderful caregivers, Joan Warren, Andrea Domine and Lorraine Pinsent. Thank you for your compassion, patience and love you showed for Mom.

Left to mourn with heavy hearts are her six children; Nellie (Bob) Smith, Ford (Kathy Newhook, Velma (Denzil) Warren, Ted (Winnie) Newhook, Cora (Robert) McKenzie, her baby girl Rebecca (Steven) Power, and sisters in law Francis Howell, Mildred Pretty and Edith Pretty.

Mom was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Gerald, Andrea, Robbie, Nolan, Neil, Cody, Charles, Gary, Rebecca, James, Alexander, Joshua and Cameron, and 16 Great-Grandchildren: Emma, Nathan, Lucas, Nicholas, Amber, Caleb, Emma, Emily, Madison, Devon, Trinity, Braden, Austin, Shelby, Christopher, and Avery.

Resting at  The Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Norman’s Cove. Visitation Sunday. Oct. 27, 4:00 -6:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Monday 2:00 – 5:00 and  7:0 – 9:00 pm. Tuesday 10:00 am -12:00 noon. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 2:00 pm.

We will keep you close to our hearts forever; we love you to the Moon and back.

PIERCEY, Alfreda (Newhook)

Alfreda (Newhook) Piercey died peacefully on October 23rd at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 80.

She is predeceased by parents Gordon and Sarah Jane (Peddle ) Newhook. Daughter Pansy Bernice; Sister; Irene Martin (Nelson), brother; Alphonsus (Elizabeth); Gerald (Marilyn).

She leaves to mourn her beloved Husband Wesley; and Her 4 children Donna Butt, Margaret Traverse (Chris), June Schappert (Rick) and Matthew Piercey (Carolyn) and her grandchildren Justin, Maggie, Matthew, Grant, Michael, Bradley and Eli. Her great grandchildren; Kayden, Taylor, and Colten. She leaves behind siblings Janet White (Cliff), Gordon (Maureen), Richard (Lucy), Dallas Peach (Calvin), Mark, Jane White (Bert), Herman (Hazel). And a large circle of extended family and friends.

Visitation for family will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on October 24th from 7-9 pm. A funeral will be held in her honour at Normans Cove on Saturday, October 26th at 2 pm at Bethel United Church. Donations can be made in Alfreda’s memory to The Canadian Cancer Society.

 

Clifford Walter Cranford

Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of our  precious Dad Clifford Walter Cranford age 84 years at his summer home in Whitbourne on October 18, 2019 the place he loved the most, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents Clarence and Edith Cranford, sister’s Rosanna and Joan. Sister-in-law Mary, brother-in-law Boyd. Leaving to mourn his loving wife June of 63 years. Children; Gary (Louanne), Terry (Margaret), Cheryl (Chris).Grand children Amanda (Steve), Nicole (Mitchell), Jason, Justin (Becky), 1 great grand daughter Madison.  Sister’s; Betty, Norma (Frank) Patsy (Walt), Judy.  2 brother’s; Fred, Junior (Lorraine).

 

Dad was born in New Harbour, Trinity Bay and moved to St. John’s with his family at the age of 7. At 17 he went to work with the City of St. John’s and retired after 40 years from his position as Superintendent of Streets and Sanitation. Dad was such a sweet and gentle man who loved life.

 

Cremation has taken place. Remains resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 2 -4 pm and 7-9pm.  Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 2:00 pm from St. John’s the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne.  No flowers by request.

George Donald Lockyer

LOCKYER, George Donald, ( Feb 18, 2940 – Sept 21, 2019 ). Passed peacefully away at the Lion’s Manor Nursing Home, of Little Harbour East, on Sept 21, 2019, age 79 years.
Predeceased by his parents Frank & Phoebe Lockyer, his first wife Betty, sister Rita (Bill, deceased ), and brother Freeman. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 20 years Rita,
brother’s and sister’s: Lester (Annie, deceased), Mondella (Samuel, deceased), Rex (Dora, deceased ), Madonna (Joe), Alfred (Shirley) and sister-in-law Jane,
and many niece’s and nephew’s. Also leaving to mourn sister’s-in-law and brother’s-in-law. George was a quiet and gentle man. Resting at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Little Harbour East.
Visitation on Monday, Sept 23 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, 2:00 – 5:00 pm, 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Tuesday, Sept 24, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Funeral Service to be held on Tuesday, Sept 24 at 2:00 pm.

Violet Sisley Peddle April 13, 1930 – September 10, 2019
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Violet Sisley Peddle (nee Clarke) in her 89th year, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by sisters, Mary, Audry, Bessie, Ruby and brother Selby. Survived by brothers Robert and Silas.

Fondly remembered by her loving husband of 69 years, William, daughters – Dorothy (Kenneth), Vivian (Brian), sons – William Jr. (Judy), Wallace (Donna), Angus (Beverlee), Derek (Sharon), Rodney (Katrina), Darryl (Bonnie), and granchildren, Kimberly, Kenneth Jr., Katherine, Kandice, Wallace Jr., Dylan, Pauline, Tammy, Danika, Brittany, Joshua, Courtney, Keegan, Ethan, Charlee along with several great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends.

HOWELL, Gordon Robert Wayne

Gordon Robert Wayne Howell, 63, of Whitbourne, NL passed away peacefully on Friday September 06, 2019 at the Health Sciences Center, surrounded by family and friends.
He was born to parents George & Louise, on July 17, 1956 in Markland., NL.
He was married to loving wife Donna in October 1990. Predeceased by parents George and Louise (White) Sister’s Isabelle Howell and Melva Young, Parents-in-law Cecil and Theresa (Lane) Butler, Sisters-in-law Joan Clarke, Sandra Howell and Nephew Winston Young, Brother-in-law Holise Priddle.
Leaving to mourn his soul mate of 29 years Donna, son Robert and daughter-in-law Elizabeth. Brothers Eldon (Carrie), Melvin (Maxine), Sisters Hilda (Mac), Annie (Brian), Rita (Kevin), Nita (Glen) and Dale, Brother-in-law Walter (Rosalind) Lundrigan, Sisters-in-law Christine Cox and Margaret Lundrigan
Special friends Dave and Nancy White, Ruby Courts, Sandra and Andy Perry, Special Nephew Glen (Sherry) Young, as well as a large number of extended family, friends and co-workers.
Wayne was a loving husband and father. A great friend, always ready to lend a hand or spin a yarn. A prankster of the highest degree, his accuracy with a water balloon or a funny remark was unmatched. Aside from his devoted wife, his great love was the sea, having been a fisherman for 30+ years. His time as a volunteer Firemen in Whitbourne gave him a feeling of accomplishment and comradery, giving him a chance to give back to a community he adored. Having retired from the sea at age 51, he began a career as a DSW with Caregivers Inc, where co-workers became friends, and some co-workers became family. Wayne was loyal, loving, and kind, a pillar of strength and comfort to friends and family alike. A celebration of his life will be held at the Whitbourne Firehall on 14 September, from 2 – 4. His ashes will be spread at a later date in a private event.

Steven Scott Whelan

With broken heart’s we say goodbye to a gentle loving soul, (Steven) Scott Whelan, Scottie loved the outdoors, loved to fish and was comically

know as the trout whisperer. Above all. he loved his girls. He loved his family, close friends and was loved by those that knew him, he will be deeply missed.

Predeceased by sister Joanna Cluett ( August 9, 2019 ).
