Brothers, Dana Caroline , February 21, 1965 – March 20, 2019. It is with great sadness that the family of Dana Brothers announce her tragic passing on Thursday March 20th, from injuries sustained in a snow-mobile accident.
Dana was born February 21, 1965 in Long Harbour. She is survived by her daughter, Shingi Murray (Richard Kaz); partner Carol Bélanger; parents, Cecilia & Gordon Brothers (Long Harbour); sisters, Kim Brothers, Long
Harbour, Renee Nolan (Sean), Ontario, Nadine Brothers, St. John’s; brother, Sheldon (Shani), Ontario; nieces, Thea and Taylor; nephews, Peter, Sam and Liam; god-daughter, Deidre Keating and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Dana was predeceased by grandparents Dora & Clifford Brothers and Elizabeth & Dennis Murphy.
Dana was a brilliant shining light with an intense love of life and a lover of all things, especially the arts, people, cats and a good racket. She touched countless lives during her 54 years on this Earth, known to many as an exceptional woman, daughter, sister, mother, partner and friend. An accomplished writer, councillor and tireless advocate for the under privileged. She was a fearless feminist, and as devoted to all of humanity
as she was to her large circle of family and close friends. She was a traveller, a valedictorian, a Valentine Queen, a chef, doctor, honor student, protestor, class president and public speaker.
A strong person stands up for themselves. A stronger person stands up for everyone else. Dana was the strongest! Despite her health struggles she gave
back in every way. From a teacher in Zimbabwe to a Social Worker in St. John’s and Ottawa, she worked with organizations to help those most in need, abused
women, veterans, convicts and people suffering with addictions. An active member of the New Democratic Party and of the LGBTQ community, Dana was a champion of Social Justice. When you think of Dana, celebrate your happy memories of her and a joyful
life lived. Remember her smile, her laugh and her love. Remember her amazing contributions to family, friends and humanity. Remember also that life is
fragile and should be lived to the fullest, as Dana always did. Visitation at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne on Tuesday, March 26 from 10:00 am – 9:00 pm. A Celebration of Life at St. Jerome’s Church in Long Harbour on Wednesday, March 27 at 11:00 am.
