Loretta Frances Drover

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Loretta Frances Drover (Nee) Penny who passed peacefully at home on November 1st, 2023   while surrounded by her family. Preceded by her loving husband of fifty four years (Albert) Maxwell, daughter Trudy and sister Aggie Jones.

Leaving to mourn are her ten children Glenda (Fred), Bill (Phyllis), Aggie (Ian), Wanda (Dave), Barry (Glenda), Tina (Ron), Bev (Richard), Rodney (Laura), Craig (Linda) and son-in-law Randy George. Also left to mourn are her brothers Andy (Effie) and Terry (Penny), her twenty four grandchildren, her forty four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A special thank you to her homecare workers Julie, Tracy, Taunya, Jessica, Rachael, Taylor, Penny, Angie and Cheyanne for giving her a better quality of life and enabling her to stay in her home.

Resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on Thursday November 2nd at 1:00pm (family), 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm and on Friday November 3rd 1:00pm-4:00pm. Service on Saturday November 4th at 2:00pm at St. John the Baptist Church in Whitbourne. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or St. John the Baptist Church.

Joan Piercey-Trahey

Joan Piercey-Trahey, aged 65, passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on October 17, 2023. Predeceased by her parents, David and Marina Piercey; Step Father, Robert Smith; and grandparents, Donald and Violet Reynolds and Alfred and Annie Piercey. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her husband Joe; step-daughters, Krista (Jonathan) Watson, Aimee (Pat) Silver, and Teri (Joe) Costello, brother David (Kathryn) Piercey, along with her beloved niece, Vasiliki. Joan will also be missed by her grandchildren; Ellen, Daniel & Isaac.

Joan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Memorial University in 1978, and a Masters of Education in 1992.  She was a committed and passionate educator for 34 years. She began her career in a one room K-11 school in Hatchet Cove, Trinity Bay in 1979.  She returned home to teach at Norman’s Cove Elementary in 1981, where she taught until 1997 when she transferred to Holy Family Elementary in Chapel Arm, and served as Principal from 2007 until her retirement in 2013.  Joan also sang with Coastal Sounds and the United Church Choirs, and volunteered  countless hours with the Lioness Club, Lions Club, Girl Guides, and many other organizations and causes. Joan was an active member of the community and her church, and leaves behind a wide circle of friends whom she dearly cherished.

Visitation will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne from 4-8pm on October 19, 2023. Funeral will take place on October 20 at the Anglican Church in Norman’s Cove at 2pm. Interment to follow at United Church Cemetery, Norman’s Cove.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.

Angus Albert Doucette

It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the sudden passing of our grandfather, Angus Albert Doucette who died on September 23, 2023 at the Health Science complex in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Angus was born in Quinan, Nova Scotia on March 2, 1943. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred & Elizabeth Doucette, and children Wayne Hindy, Loretta Kriegel & Kerry Kriegel and sister, Nancy Boutilier (Paul).

Leaving to mourn  his beloved wife, Anne Hindy of 50 years and grandchildren, Jason Kriegel (Dwayne), Paul Fellows (Roger) & Tiffany Hindy(Rory).

Siblings, Harold Doucette (Margret), Genevive Muese (Johnny), Ella Thibeau, Carol Johnson (Ebbie), Stanley Doucette (Faye), Sylvia Richardson (Donnie) & family members.

Best friends, Bill Lundrigan, Erie Cardwell, Les Culleton & Connie Brazil and many card game friends.

A huge thank you to all the nurses and doctors at Carbonear hospital and Health Sciences Centre and to all of his many friends & family over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to be made to the Dementia Society of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Visitation will take place at Holloway’s Funeral home in Whitbourne, NL on Thursday, September 28th from 2pm to 4pm, 7pm to 9pm and Friday morning from 10am to 12pm. Service will take place at Holloway’s Funeral home on Friday, September 29th from 3:00 pm.

Colin Galway

Passed away suddenly at Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, August 20 , 2023, at the age of 38.
Predeceased by his father, Ben. Leaving to mourn  are his loving mother, Clara and his devoted family.
His four sisters, Colleen Gillingham (Michael), Kerry Murphy (Daniel), Laureen, and April (Trevor
Pomroy), two brothers, Ben (Jackie) and Tony. Nieces and nephews, Lucas, Grace, and Maria
Gillingham, Andrew Murphy, Mackenzie and Madison Galway, and Sam Galway, large extended
family, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Thanks to all of the exceptional nurses, doctors, and other staff members of Carbonear General
Hospital. They were all so good and kind to Colin and kind to our family members who stayed with
Colin day and night. The staff went beyond any expectation. Colin will be forever loved and never
forgotten.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Holloway’s Funeral Home. His wake will be at the
Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm, Thursday, August 31st,

2023. Funeral Service on Friday, September 1 , 2023 at 2 pm in Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue.
Inurement to follow at the RC Cemetery in Whitbourne.

August 22, 1929 – August 27, 2023
 
Reid, Alma (Legge)  age 94 of Chapel Arm passed peacefully away, surrounded by her family.
 
Predeceased by her husband Nath, Parents Absalom and Jessie Legge, brothers Edward and John, sisters Stella and Priscilla, Grandsons Jason ,Lucas and son in law Terry.
 
Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her children Lorraine (Harvey), Calvin (Pattie), Linda (Michael), Don (Barb), Muriel (Robert), Val (Mark), Nathy (Angie), Cathie (Rheal), Lorna (Ken), Elaine (George), 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.
 
Mom was a very active member of her church. She loved going to the ACWA meetings and church gatherings.
 
Another love of moms was her Boston Bruins hockey team. She spent many late nights up watching “her boys” and cheering them on.
A big highlight for her was going to Florida to watch the Bruins play and in 2011, she went to Bonavista to see the Stanley cup and to meet Michael Ryder.
 
Moms love for her husband Nath and children was unconditional. She always enjoyed family gatherings, going camping and tending to her flowers.
 
Sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital 7th floor, for their care and support during moms stay at the hospital. 
 
A special thank you to mom’s home care workers Jackie Crittenden and Terri Lynn Piercey. Your care and dedication to mom, didn’t go unnoticed. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you!
 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 29, 2023 at St. John the Baptist church in Chapel Arm from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm. 
 
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday August 30th at St. John the Baptist Church in Chapel Arm, at 2:00 pm. Cremation has taken place.
Inurnment to follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Long Harbour Rd.

Ray Branton

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ray Branton on Aug 14, 2023, at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by his parents, Sarah and Caleb, his son Mark, his granddaughter Charlee-Rae, son-in-law Frank, his brother Eldridge, sisters Viola and Irene, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Alma and Silas.

Leaving to mourn with loving memories, his wife, of nearly 61 years, Grace, children Toni, Neil (Juanita), Darrel (Mary), Perry (Frances), Bryan (Tina), Warren (Rhoda), and Monique (Ross), 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Sister Florence, brothers Doug, Les, Eric, Harvey, and numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug 17, 2023, from  12.00 – 2:00 with funeral service immediately following at Faith United Church in Thornlea.

Angela Ryan, age 68, passed away suddenly during a recent stay at Carbonear General Hospital, on July 25, 2023. She was accompanied by one of her sisters when she passed.

Predeceased by her parents Leo and Charlotte Brazil, and brothers Joseph and Gerard Brazil.

 

Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her loving husband of 36 years, Bill, children Melissa (Bryan), Laura (Josh), Theresa (Mohammad), and Billy (Vangie), and grandson Oliver. As well as her siblings, Jim Brazil (Janice), Mary Brazil (Neil), Leo Brazil (Muriel), Theresa Brazil (Gary), Paula Newhook (Rick), and Beulah Brazil, sister-in-laws Trudy Parsons Brazil, Lena Brazil, and Pauline Hawco, and her many nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will occur on Thursday July 27th at 2-4:00pm and 7-9:00pm and Friday July 28th at 2-4:00pm and 7-9:00pm.

 

Service will be held at the Bellevue Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, July 29 at 11:30 am.
Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bellevue.

Passed away at Carbonear Hospital surrounded in love by his family, Angus Graham Kennedy, aged 83 years.

Predeceased by parents Mary and Harry Kennedy, brothers Raymond and Harry, brothers in law Fred Jones, Kevin Pretty and John Andrews, grand daughter Stacey and niece Janet.

Left with loving memories and many adventures, Angus leaves to mourn his   loving wife of 61 years Lois, children Glenn (Sharon), Don (Patti), Paul (Maver), Michele (Bill), Adrian (Tricia); grandchildren Jonathan, Ashley (Mark) Samantha (James), Jillian (Ryan), Meredith (Edward), Brett (Melissa), Colin, Christian (Courtney), Julia (Bailey) and Liam; great grandchildren Brooke, Alex, Ava, Jacob, Cole, Jack and Macie.

Sisters Joan, Sylvia (Adrian), Olga, Betty and special sister in law Wendy; Aunt Olive Hussey, mother in law Olive Noseworthy, sister in law Shirley (Armin), brother in law Ron (Tina), as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews; also loved and missed by a large circle of extended family and friends.

Angus was loved by all who knew him, those he met through his many years working and those he met along the way. He was truly larger than life and time spent with him always left you with a smile and a lifted spirit.

Special thanks to the staff of 6th floor of Carbonear Hospital, Placentia Health Care Centre, Newhook Community Health Centre and Dr. Megan Dawe of Paradise Medical Clinic.

Cremation has taken place; a celebration of life  will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023  at 2:00 pm  from   St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Whitbourne.

Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of ones choosing.

Joan Thorne of Fair Haven, age 76, passed peacefully away after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital, June 27, 2023.
Predeceased by her parents Ernest and Catherine Clarke, son Scott Thorne. Brothers Nelson Clarke, Dennis Clarke, Clarence Clarke, Sister Marjorie Lawlor.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her dedicated husband of 56 years, Dave, children Steven(Kim), Shawn (Jen), Sister Irene Norman (John). Grandchildren, Cory(Jessica), Theo, Patrick , Mia. Great- grandchildren, Scott and Freya.
She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special Thank-you to the nursing staff on the 6th floor at the Carbonear General Hospital and a very special thanks to her niece Bonnie Gosse and sister- in-law Arrian Crann.
Service will be held at the Fair Haven Community Centre on Friday June 30, 2023 at 3pm.
Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Fair Haven.

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our father
Eric Piercey on June 14,2023 after a short illness at the
Clarenville hospital.
He is predeceased by his wife Grace, son Eric Junior.
Parents Sarah and James Piercey, sister Phoebe, brothers
Max and Victor. Great grandson Seth, brother in law Selby,
daughter in law Verna and nephew Darrin.
Leaving to mourn sons: Sam(Isabelle), Calvin (Sally),
Alec(Brenda), Gary. Daughter Mary Lynn, and brother
Bob(Bernice).
Grandchildren: Billy Joe, Eric Shawn, Steve(Angela),
Collin(Linda), Jeff, Robin, Niki(Trevor), Toby(Lisa),
Shane(Amber), Christopher(Melissa), Maxwell(Mark).
Great grand children: Zac(Ellie), Joshua(Rachel),
Eric(Kristen), Tori, Dawson, Taya, Kira, Cameron, Brady,
Benjamin, Easton, Lochlan, Gracie, Alec, Elizabeth, Jacob,
And Mabel.
Eric will be missed by his nieces, nephews, and his friends.
Eric had lived a good life. He enjoyed woodworking and
painting until his eyesight started to fail. He would sit by the
window and watch as the cars that would pass by.
He would love to wear his headphones and watch wrestling
and many times would watch the same show over and over.
Eric will be resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home in
Whitbourne on Thursday from 7-9. Friday’s visitation will be
at the United Church in Norman’s Cove from 7-9.
Funeral service will take place on Saturday June 17 at 2 pm.
Cremation will follow and the committal will be at a later date.
Special thank you to the staff of Clarenville hospital for giving
him the upmost care and attention. We are grateful.
