It is with heavy hearts we, the family of Melba Jean Reid, announce her passing on January 5th, 2025, at age 94. Melba passed away peacefully at the Lion’s Manor in Placentia surrounded by family and friends.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Vern Reid. As well as daughter Valarie Reid. Parents Samuel and Marcey Mercer, parents in law Fred and Elizabeth Reid, siblings Robert Mercer (Eileen), Vinie Sellers (Harry), brothers in law Fred Reid, Ron Reid, Darrell Reid, Ray Gosse, Mac Drover, Nelson Harnum, and special nephew Wade Drover.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Darlene Moores (Rodney), granddaughters Candee Reid, Stacy Reid and Sammi-Jo Reid (Adam). Great grandchildren Billie Jean Reid, Cameron Reid, Morgan Keating, Damien Reid, and Tyler Pilgrim. Sister Ella Drover-Harnum, sisters in law Marjorie Gosse, Phylis Moore (Irving), Jean Pinsent (Wayne), Betty MacIsaac (Larry), Bea Reid, Mary Reid, and Josie Sooley. As well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will take place at Holloways Funeral Home, in Whitbourne, on January 9th, 2025 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm, and on Friday, January 10th from 10am-12pm.
Funeral service to be held at St. Barnabas Church, Blaketown, on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at 2pm. Inurnment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Blaketown.
In respect and at the request of Melba, cremation has taken place.

Liz will be remembered for her kindness, humor and the love for her children, grandchildren, family and many lifelong friendships.
Leaving to mourn her partner Craig Piercey, their cherished Pomeranian Peggy, her beloved children that were the center of her world whom she loved deeply Michael (Doreen), Betsy (Steve), Sean (Malissa), Jamie (Jaime), Grandchildren Brad, Mackenzie, Kalie, Jamie, Emilie, Alicia, Shayden,  Braydyn and Mae.
She was the eldest of 7 children leaving behind Leo (Barb)Tom (Helen), Cec (Molly) Pete (Joce)
Dan (Val) and her only sister Josephine.
Born October 20, 1945 in Bellevue, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Bridget McCarthy (Pretty)
She will be sadly missed by her special friend of many years Peggy Hoskins, a large circle of close friends,

It is with broken hearts we, the friends and family of Harvey Branton, announce his passing on December 31, 2024, at age 70. Predeceased by his parents, Caleb and Sarah Branton, his brothers, Ray, Doug and Eldridge Branton, and his sisters Viola Colbourne and Irene Boynton as well as his sister-in-law Doreen Branton. His brothers-in-law Ern Colbourne, Charlie Russel and John Antle and his mother-in-law Elsie Antle.

Leaving to mourn is his loving and devoted wife Pauline, his three stepsons Donny (Lisa) Jarvis of Corner Brook, Christopher (Pam) Jarvis of BC and Chad (Nikki) Jarvis of Texas. His twelve grandchildren who he adored: Gabby, Nathan, Carter, Jillian, Tyson Harvey, Donny, Amelia, Riley, Ava, Jack, Luke and Levi. His sister Florence (Brendan) Lynch and his brothers Eric (Jocelyn) and Leslie. His sisters-in-law Grace Branton, Marilyn Branton, Laura Antle, Joanne Antle, Gail (Harry) Edwards, Brenda Antle and the extended Antle family. His brothers-in-law Bob Boynton and Ed (Valerie) Antle. Many nephews and nieces that he loved dearly. His special nephews Paul Colbourne, Warren (Rhoda) Branton and Glen (Juanita) Branton and their daughter, Dr. Sarah Branton, whom he was so very proud of. His special nieces: Susan Nicholl and all of Doug’s girls : Sharon, Gail, Denise and Patsy. Many cousins including the Wally and Bowen families in the U.S.

Many, many friends including Gudren and Dave Williams and all of the Williams family of St John’s who he was very close to.

Special thanks to his caregiver and friend, Janice (Gord) Lutz, whom he adored. And to his longtime family doctor, Dr. Randy Smith. To the Kidney and Cardiology Team and Eastern Health Palliative Care Unit, especially Nurse Derek Tucker.

Harvey was a journeyman and electrician, by trade, and a proud member of Local 2330. He had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a servant of God all of his life. He said, “God bless you” to everyone and he was a man of integrity. He had the gift of putting everyone that he met at ease.

He will be waking at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue in St John’s, on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The wakes will be held from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

He will then return to his beloved home, Thornlea, to Faith United Church where he will wake on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1-4pm and 7-9pm.

The funeral service will be held at Faith United Church, in Thornlea, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1pm.

Passed peacefully away Dec. 8, 2024, Olive  Marjorie Hussey at the Miller Centre in St. John’s NL at the age of 96 years. Olive was born in Whitbourne, NL on July 22, 1928 to Caroline and William Kennedy. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 51 years, Robie Hussey. Olive leaves to mourn her children Ruth Fenton (Raymond – deceased), Randy Hussey (Yvonne), Carol Hussey (Jim), Stan Hussey (Dianne), Lisa Piercey (Ralph), and Neil Hussey (Dianne), as well as her cherished grandchildren Dustin, Brandy, Stacey, Lindsey, Suzanne, Heather, Shawn, Kyle, and Shane, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Olive’s life, a life well lived, will take place in 2025. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Miller Centre for their compassion and care of our mother in her last days. Our heart-felt thanks also to the staff at the Karwood Retirement Retreat in Paradise where Mom lived for the past 9 years for all their kindness and care of Mom over those years, as well as to her many friends there. She was grateful to and for you all.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Emberley of Southern Harbour, on November 24, 2024, at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his loving family, who were his pride and joy.
Leaving to mourn his loss, his four sons Tony (Linda), Ambrose (Phyllis), Clyde (Carol) and Jamie (Donna); his three daughters Nora (Vince), Mary (Darrel) and Ada (Bill); 13 grandchildren Jordan (Pam), Janel (Chad), Christoper  (Tayrn), Krista, Adam (Cassie), Amanda (Brett), Evan (Victoria), Kelsie (Ryan), DJ (Holly), Brandon (Heidi), Trent (Stacy), Kielly (Josh) and Chloe (Nathan), and 17 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ann, his parents Joseph and Mary, and other members of his family.
Dad was so strong and fought to the bitter end to stay with us, but there were just too many things combined to fight, and we had to let him go. He lived for his family, and it broke our hearts to let him go. We pray now that he is reunited with mom and all the family members who went before him. He will be loved and missed always.
Resting at St. Francis Community Church, Southern Harbour, with immediate family visitation on November 25th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm and open to the public for visitation from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Pubic visitation on November 26th from 10:00 am – 9:00 pm and on November 27th from 9:00 am – to 12:00 pm. Funeral to take place at 2:00 pm.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of (Reginald) Stewart Morgan, on November 18, 2024 at the age of 87, in the company of his loving family.
Leaving to mourn his loss, his loving wife of 63 years, Carrie; his two daughters Joanne and Shona; five grandchildren, Chantal (Brian), Ryan (Amy), Kaitlyn (Charlie), Tara (Michael) and Jennifer (Rob); six great grandchildren; sister Ruby Baker; brother Herb (Bessie) Morgan; daughter-in-law Bev; sisters-in-law Dale Morgan and Pearl Morgan; special friend Dale Murphy; and special nephews Mike, Paul and Robert Hickey; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends.

Predeceased by son Roger and son-in-law Terry Rose; great granddaughter Aaliyah; parents Isaac and Elsie Morgan; brothers and sisters George, Harold, Gerry, Violet (Owen) and Joyce (Fergus).

Dad was humble and a hardworking man who took great pride in the fact that he did his best at whatever he set out to accomplish. After his retirement from ERCO Industries (Albright and Wilson), he attended Agricultural College in Nova Scotia and continued to work until he was 82 years of age. Dad was known as “Tony” to his friends. Anyone who knew Dad knew his passion for music. He loved jam sessions with his buddies or just chilling and listening to his favorite tunes. We learned growing up in our home that you didn’t need to have the same DNA to be family.

We are blessed to have special people in our lives who share our happy times and our sorrow.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff on the 5th and 6th floors at Carbonear Hospital.

Agnes Keating (nee King) passed peacefully away at her home at the age of 86 on November 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Agnes was predeceased by her parents Sarah and Joseph King, sons Tony and Randy, daughter Carolanne, granddaughters Christa and Kelly, brothers James, Joseph, Leo, Peter, William, Gerome Elijah, Clarence, Cecil and Anslem, sisters Bridget, Catherine and Elizabeth.
Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 68 years Ronald Keating, son Ronnie, daughters Dolores (Morris), Darlene, Cindy (Brian), Rhonda (Tom), Deanne (Trevor), son-in-law Clifford Brothers, daughter-in-law Doris Purcell, and sister Celine Hammond. Agnes was graced with 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
68 years ago, Ron and Agnes began a lifelong journey in which they raised 8 children. Throughout her life, Agnes was an active member in her community. She loved sewing, knitting, quilting, crafting, cooking for a crowd (the more the merrier), and especially playing a good game of 120s (she loved to win). Agnes’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. Agnes will be greatly missed by each person’s life she touched. Rest in peace Mom. We love you.

Special friends Gary pretty and Oral Newhook and nephew Lucas Smith

Larry leaves behind his caring wife Pheobe, son Shane (Tish), daughters Jenny and Kayla (Steve). Also leaving behind his wonderful grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Shaye, Kale, Laila and Abigail. brothers, Junior (Marjorie), Gene (Anne) Sisters, Donna (Merrill), Peggy (Art), Valerie (Shawn), Sharon, (Rick) Connie (Rod). Leaving numerous nieces and nephews and a slew of friends. Special friends Leo and Marina Pretty, Jadd Murphy, Carl Murphy and Mark Graham. Also leaving to mourn in laws Earl (Sharon), Harvey (Floss), Jenny (Darryl), Debbie and sister in law Monica.

Larry’s favorite pass time, aside from being with his family, was in the shed. Rather it be at the wood or having a laugh with his buddies, the fire was always roaring and ready for a time.

Visitation will be Nov 29th, 2024 7-9 pm and Nov 30th 10am-12pm. Celebration of life will be at 1:30 pm at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne, followed by inurnment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Long Harbour Road.

We will miss him and his joyous laugh tremendously
