Graham Maxwell Gosse
July 2, 1945 – January 17, 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family of Graham Maxwell Gosse of Whitbourne announce the peaceful
passing and loss of their beloved father on January 17, 2025 at the age of 79, at Carbonear General
Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Markland, Graham was the son of Harold Gosse of
Whitbourne and Melina (née March) Gosse of Greens Harbour.
Predeceased by Emily his wife of 53 years, Graham leaves to mourn his sisters Hazel Hobbs of Mount
Pearl, Vida Kelland of Whitbourne, Alma (Richard) Kelly of Bay Roberts; brothers Lloyd (Peggy) Gosse of
Bible Hill, NS, and Bill (Sylvia) Gosse of Chamberlains; brother-in-law William Gilbert of Blaketown;
sister-in-law Pagie Hickman of Tecopa, California; and his children, Graham Jr. (Lora) Gosse of Wilmot,

Graham had a distinguished career with the provincial government, serving for over thirty years. He was
also a dedicated member of the Whitbourne Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Passionate about
the outdoors, Graham enjoyed going out the track trouting and berry picking with Emily. A true “jack of all
trades,” he was known for taking the lead on household projects and DIY tasks. An avid carpenter,
Graham spent countless hours in his workshop, creating pieces for his home, family, and friends. He was
also a tireless worker and, alongside Emily, spent many hours cutting and gathering firewood, often using
horse, trike, or quad to haul it home.
Graham’s children would like to thank all family and friends that came out to support us in these past
difficult months. We can’t begin to thank you enough for the wonderful care and compassion he was
provided. A special thanks to Dr. Bruce Doulton and his palliative care team, St. John’s, Dr. Dawn Howse,

in our hearts. His life inspired us all.

family gathering and internment will be held at the Whitbourne United Church Cemetery this coming

Broken Chain – Ron Tranmer
We little knew the day that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone,
A part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one
the chain will link again

“I have gone to gather bird songs
From abundant trees,
To keep in my winter storehouse
Warmer memories
I shall press them out like berries,
Brewing from the crush,
Gold grenadine of oriole,
Sweet honeydew of thrush.
I shall line them up and label them
Every sumptuous tune,
So that at my winter table
I’ll believe it’s June.” (Shirley P. Forkin)
