Vera Winifred Power (Clarke)
We take comfort that our mother, Vera Winifred Power (Clarke), is now at peace and resting with our Dad and her husband of 53 years, Kevin Power, and our sister, Geraldine. In her 80th year, Mom passed away on December 3 with her family by her side. She will forever be missed by her children and grandchildren Kenneth and Lori (Megan [Keith Smith] and Miranda), Rick and Jackie (Bradley), Lorne and Stephanie (Casandra, Courtney and Christina), Elaine and Blair (Kevin), and Steven and Rebecca (Joshua and Cameron). Mom was especially proud of her two great grandchildren Madison and Mason. Pre-deceased by her father Josiah Clarke, and mothers Elizabeth (England) and Blanche (Smith). She will be missed by her sister Joan Clarke (Manuals, NL) and brother George Clarke (Kentville, NS), and a large circle of friends including her special “Auntie” Cavelle and close friend and sister-in-law Bernadette.
Born in Brigus, Mom grew up in Manuals, and moved to Chapel Arm to marry Dad in 1961. Together they worked hard and built a family, a home and a successful business. Mom being the Superwoman that she was, kept it all going with her strength. She was happy with the simple pleasures of life – in addition to raising and guiding us, she kept an immaculate home and loved being in the kitchen. Her famous fruitcake and chocolate chip cookies were enjoyed and will be missed by many.
Special thanks are extended to the sixth floor staff at Carbonear General Hospital. Your professionalism and support, your caring and compassion were truly appreciated. Also to Mom’s room mate while she was in hospital, Mrs. Priddle for her ever watchful eye over Mom. And a very heartfelt thank you to Mom’s home care provider Jacqui Crittenden. Jacqui – you are and always will be a part of our family.
Visitation will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on Sunday, December 5 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm, and on Monday from 10am to 12pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chapel Arm with a funeral service at 2:30pm, following which Mom will be laid to rest next to Dad at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
