Minnie Thorne (January 27, 1931 – January 14, 2025)
Our loss is heaven’s gain when our precious Mother passed peacefully away at age 93, with her family by her side, at Carbonear General Hospital.
She was predeceased by sons Baby John, Gordon Bruce, and Charles Edmund; her parents Ellis and Annie Tucker; her brothers Charles and James; her sister Carol; and precious granddaughter Melissa Thorne.
Leaving to mourn with loving memories her sons Robert (Roberta), David (Doreen), Wilfred (Vicki), and daughters Elizabeth Briant (Bradley), Rosemary (Osvaldo Croci), and her sister Rosemary Moore (Robert). Also 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, plus a large circle of extended family, friends, and her beloved church family.
She was a loving and caring mother who always put her family first. Mom was an accomplished visual artist and needlework artisan, and she loved flowers and plants.
Special thank you to the wonderful staff for treating her like family during her stay at Shag Rock Manor, Whiteway, and all the nurses from the 5th and 6th floors at Carbonear General Hospital, including Alison Power, Ally, Mollie, Morgan and Lynnanne. We are forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place.

“I have gone to gather bird songs
From abundant trees,
To keep in my winter storehouse
Warmer memories
I shall press them out like berries,
Brewing from the crush,
Gold grenadine of oriole,
Sweet honeydew of thrush.
I shall line them up and label them
Every sumptuous tune,
So that at my winter table
I’ll believe it’s June.” (Shirley P. Forkin)
Sorry to hear the news. It’s always so sad when one loses their mother, no matter how old.
My condolences on your loss. I enjoyed working with Minnie at the Queen Elizabeth II Library many years ago. She was sweet and funny. Keep her in your heart. A mother’s love never really leaves you.

Our deepest condolences to the Thorne family, your mom was such a sweet lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I remember working with Minnie at the QE11 at Memorial University. She was such a sweet lady who always had a big smile. We also got together at the retirees luncheons we had a couple of times a year to see old friends and catch up on all the news about families. RIP Minnie.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother.
I worked with her at the QEII Library. I was not surprised to read that she was an artist. For years she did a wonderful job of mending our books, another task which requires great manual dexterity.
My condolences on the passing of your mother, Minnie. I had the good fortune to work with Minnie at the QEII Library. She was always kind, thoughtful and ready with a smile. She will be warmly remembered.
