Our hearts are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Cyril Kevin Maxwell Thorne (age 72) of Chance Cove on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Predeceased by his parents, Alfred & Jessie Thorne of Chance Cove; father and mother-in-law, Chesley & Shirley Collett of Fair Haven; baby brother Dermet; sisters-in-law Judy Thorne, Cynthia Thorne, Ruby Jarvis (Bobby).

Leaving to mourn, his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Barbara; daughters, Nicole Peddle (Mark), Charlene Thorne (Don) and grandson, Dylan Peddle; sisters, Caroline Brace (Edgar), Lorraine Power (Fred), Marion Brace (Nathan); brothers, Donald Thorne (Joan), Albert Thorne, Lindo Thorne, sisters-in-law, Geraldine Lynch (Gerard), Sherry Power (Shawn), brothers-in-law, Joe Collett (Debbie), Paul Collett (Paula), Harold Collett (Laurie), Hubert Collett (Carrie), and many cousins, nieces, nephews, family, friends and special cousin Gar Upshall.

Cyril was the happiest in the woods hunting, trapping and berry picking, or on the water fishing, he didn’t stop for much. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Dylan, the greatest pride and joy of his life and his favorite hockey player. He was a strong, devoted and loving man, he adored his wife, and his daughters and grandson were his world. He was a pillar of the Thorne family, always there when you needed him and gave his whole heart in everything he did.

Thank you to everyone who helped on January 23, to bring Cyril back to his family; a special thank you to Angus Brace.

Visitation will take place at Holloway’s Funeral Home on Monday, January 27, located at 33A Cabot Ave  Whitbourne from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Public Viewing.

Cremation will follow on Tuesday, January 28.

Celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, January 29 at the Anglican Church in Chance Cove at 2:00 pm. Interment of ashes to follow at the Anglican Cemetery.

  4. Our entire community is in shock over the sudden passing of Cyril. Loretta and I send condolences to Barb, Nicole, Charlene and all extended family. During all my time as Chief of the Chance Cove Volunteer Fire Department, Cyril had my back and his constant support was unwavering. He added strength and dependability which amplified his love of community. Thank you for your service and may you rest in peace, my friend.

    We were shocked to hear of Uncle Cyril’s passing. We wish that we could be there with you and the rest of the family, but know our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I’m sure your hearts are breaking for the sudden loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Cherish the memories made. They will help get you through the coming days.

    Psalm 34:18 says ” The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.”
