George Crane

Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on April 10, 2025, George Crane, of Whitbourne, aged 83.

George was a wonderful man who loved to laugh and have fun. He was loved by all who knew him. He was a fisherman for many years and also a volunteer firefighter in Whitbourne. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

George is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Ada Crane, his loving wife Sylvia Crane, sister Phoebe (Harris) Mercer, Gladys (Arch) Lynch, brother Selby Crane and sister in law Betty(Edward) Crane and his daughter Elizabeth Phillips.

Leaving to mourn with deep sorrow are his children Ada (Nick) Pollett, Frances (Harold) Norman, Judy (Damien) Ryan, George (Angela) Phillips, Ron (Mary) Phillips and Edgar Phillips. Also leaving to mourn are his 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Our family extends heartfelt and sincere gratitude to all the nurses and doctors at Carbonear hospital for the care they gave him during the seven weeks he was in hospital. Our deepest thanks to each of you for your kindness and compassion.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation is at Holloways Funeral home in Whitbourne on Wednesday April 16 from 2-5 and 7-9.

  1. So sorry to hear George passed, he was a wonderful friend and a comrade of mine with the Whitbourne fire dept.So many memories of George of times we had,he was the life of the party indeed.Thinking of all the family,Rest in peace my buddy I’ll never forget you and the times we had.

George and myself grew up together and lived next door to each other in Upper Island Cove. We were the very best of friends and shared many memories over the years. Rest in peace my friend.

Sorry to hear of Georges passing ..Our Deepest CONDOLENCES to all the family … George was a long time friend to dad & mom (karl & Gladys Gosse) they played a good many games of 9 handed 45s…with a fine group of friends..Im sure they are all hitting their knuckles hard ..& for sure George is keeping them laughing..he was a great sport & will be sadly missed by us all…RIP George

  5. I am so very sorry to hear of George’s passing. I really enjoyed the time I worked with him. He had lots of stories and jokes to tell. He was a wonderful man.
