Sarah (Sally ) Newhook

Newhook, Sarah (Sally) – while surrounded by her family, passed peacefully away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, aged 92 years. Predeceased by her husband Samuel Newhook, April, 1991; parents Llewellyn and Elizabeth Reid; brother Leonard Reid and sister Majorie Warren. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her son Edward (Linda); grandsons Jordan Newhook, Nicolas, Alex and Michael Greeley; brothers-in-law Joseph and Absolam Newhook; sisters-in-law Verna and Hazel Newhook; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.  Special thanks to her longtime friend Luke Brake (Stephenville), for always being there; to the staff at Sir Thomas Roderick Hospital (Stephenville) for their kindness and patience during her ten week stay; and to the 4th floor staff at Saint Patrick’s Mercy Home (St. John’s) for their devout compassion and empathy during her final two weeks.  An intimate funeral service for the immediate family is being held on Friday, February 1, at 2 pm, at the Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Norman’s Cove, with Interment to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted in care of Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne or donations may be made to Southwest Coast SPCA (Stephenville).

Marilyn Reid  born January 2; 1949

Passed away peacefully after her battle with cancer surrounded by family on January 23, 2019.

Dorothy Noseworthy

NOSEWORTHY, Dorothy Irene (1925-2019). Passed peacefully away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Glenbrook Lodge, St. John’s, Dorothy Irene Noseworthy of Whitbourne, age 93 years. She is predeceased by her husband George Noseworthy, parents Willis and Annie Piercey of Hant’s Hr., brother Walter Piercey (Elsie deceased), sisters Bessie Francis (Freeman Francis deceased) and Lillian Piercey, and granddaughter Patti Lynn Noonan. She leaves to mourn, sons: Wayne (Anita), Bob (Dale) and Don (Geraldine); grandchildren: Michelle (Dwayne Blackwood), Heather (Ron Kinsella), Chris Noonan (Joetta Penney), Michael Noseworthy (Anna Linegar), Nicholas Noseworthy; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Matthew Blackwood, and Kaiden and Rylan Kinsella; brother-in-law Gordon Noseworthy; sister-in-law Gwen Noseworthy, and a large number of relatives and close friends. Resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation will be Saturday, January 19, 7:00 to 9:00 pm; Sunday, January 20, 2:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm; Monday, January 21, Funeral Service, 11:00 am from St. John the Baptist Anglican church. Reception to follow at the Lion’s Club.  In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory toward the food bank, Parish of the Holy Trinity.

Mary Matilda Crann

Mary Matilda Crann, better known to everyone as Tilda, age 85, passed away peacefully at Carbonear General Hospital on Monday, January 7th surrounded by her family. Matilda was born in Perry’s Cove, NL to George and Maggie King, and moved to Fair Haven to pursue her teaching career, where she met the love of her life, Albert Crann. And it was Fair Haven where the two of them started their family and shared their lives together. Tilda who came from a large family, with nine siblings, had only one child, Margaret. But just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, so did Tilda’s family. Through her daughter Margaret, Tilda was blessed with four Grandchildren, seven Great Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandchild. Family was the most important thing in the world to her, and the love they all had for her was beyond compare.

Tilda is predeceased by her husband Albert, Son-in-law Bob, Great Grandson Duane Scott, parents George & Maggie, Brothers Freeman, George, Ralph, Vic and Melvin. Sisters Marjorie, Gladys, & Cynthia (Al). Brother-in-laws Jack (Marjorie), Ira (Effie), Ron (Francis), & George. Sister-in-laws Mildred (Bill) and Julie (Stan)

Leaving to mourn is her daughter Margaret (Dave), Grandchildren Scott (Bonnie), Tammy (Duane), Kenny (Andrea), & Donny (Jenna). Great Grandchildren, Kris (Jess), Zack (Brooke), Dylan, Kassidy, Destiny, Brooke & Maggie. Great Great Grandson, James. Sister, Gloria. Sister-in-laws Winnie, Liz (Bob), Ursula, Barb, Patsy, & Ruby. Brother-in-law, Guy. As well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to Dr. Larson and the nurses on the 7th floor of Carbonear Hospital who helped care for Tilda in her final days. Your kindness will not soon be forgotten.

The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 11 at St. Paul’s by the Sea United Church in Fair Haven, NL. Any family and friends wishing to pay your respect are welcome to come Thursday, January 10 from 10 AM – 12 PM, 2 – 4 PM, and 7-9 PM.

Passed peacefully away on January 5th, 2019 at the Placentia Hospital, Frederick Thorne Sr. age 95 years of  Thornlea. Predeceased by wife of 60 years  Arlene. Son James. Daughter-in-law Deborah. Leaving to mourn with loving memories son Fred Thorne Jr (Eliz). Grand daughters; Justine (Clint), Holly (Kendra) and Abby. Grandson Travis. Sisters-in-law; Isabella King, Ont. Lucy Thorne, Ont. Gladys Thorne.Nieces, Barb (Frank Bigl), AB. and family, Lily Thorne, Thornlea and family, Christine Donahoe, Ont. Nephews, Doug King (Geraldine) and family, Ont. Tom Donahoe (Nanic), Ont.  Also Special friend Rita Button. Also many other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Beachside Manor, Placentia for the care they provided, also the doctors and nurses at the Placentia Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Robert (Bob) Chesley Hollett

Robert (Bob) Chesley Hollett

November 9, 1951 – January 1, 2019

Passed peacefully away at his home in South Dildo after a very courageous battle of cancer, he was surrounded by his loving family. Pre-deceased by his mother Flossie, father Malcolm (Mac) Hollett, brothers Malcolm and Woodrow as well as brother in law Desmond (Des) Butt. Leaving to mourn with everlasting, heartfelt memories, loving wife Rose Marie (Toots), daughter Dana, Bobbi- Lynn (Blair), April (Chris) and son Joshua (Claire). Stepsons Joshua (Erin) Frampton and Jamie (Meagan) Frampton. Grandchildren Coady, Hope, Brooke, Logan, Jax, Harper, Charlie and Nixon. Also leaving behind are his loving sisters Geraldine, Shirley (Carmen), Linda, Margo (Merv), Judy (Casey) and brother Dwight (Maureen). Sisters- in- law Shirley (Ron), Theresa (Joe), Cecilia, Lil (Rod), Jackie (Jim). Brothers-in law Walt (Cindy), Gerry (Mary), Mick as well as many nieces, nephews, close relatives and special friends especially his buddy of many years Jerry Fudge.

Bob was dearly loved by all those lives he touched. He was a very intelligent, hard-working man right to the end.

Special thanks to his Oncology team, Dr Renee Lester, Dr Karen Downton, chemo nurses and to his special nurse Diane. There are also so many people the family will be eternally grateful to for all their help and support throughout.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 10:00 am – 9:00 pm and Saturday, January 5, 2019 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Celebration of life will be held for family and close friends at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne, NL Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm.
