Lorraine and Cyril were married on Crawley’s Island, Long Harbour, Placentia Bay in January 1945. Their only child was stillborn, however she and Cyril choose to raise, love and give an amazing life to four other children. Two were her niece and nephew Lyla and Ralph. After her sister Imelda died when Lyla was 20 months old and Ralph was 4 they took them into their home and became their second Mom and Dad. Later they decided they wanted to add to their family circle and adopted a daughter, Leah, and two years later another daughter, Peggy. We are forever grateful for the love and care they always bestowed on us.
Lorraine worked in her younger years. On the American Naval Base in Argentia during WWII and following that in the early years of their marriage in a factory in Toronto. She was also the first Avon Lady in Long Harbour.
She loved going shopping and was able to keep doing that right up to a couple of months after she was 102.
She had a phenomenal memory which never faded and could recall in great detail things that happened in her childhood and throughout her life.
She was Aunt Lol to many nieces and nephews who always visited whenever they could and sent her cards and gifts on special occasions, she loved those visits, remembrances, and the many phone calls from them.
She lived in her own home that was built by Cyril in 1944-45 right up to a couple of weeks before her 103rd birthday when she moved to the Beachside Manor in Placentia. Many thanks to the owners and staff of Beachside Manor for their care during her short stay there. Also many thanks to her many friends who kept in touch with frequent phone calls that she appreciated so much. She always looked forward to Rita Keating’s Friday afternoon call. special thank you to Kim Power who was her home care worker and who became her close friend. They had many laughs together telling each other jokes and stories.
