Margaret Carmel Power

It is with profound sadness that the family announce that Margaret Carmel Power, age 78, passed away peacefully December 19, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by devoted family.

Margaret was born on February 9, 1944, and grew up in Chapel Arm, Newfoundland, running around Southern Cove beach and going on adventures to Little Gut. She was the beautiful bride of her best friend and love of her life, James Power, for 53 years, who preceded her passing in May of 2016. She missed him every single day since.

Also preceded in death, her beloved sisters, Betty Coffee and Mary Ellen Power, sister-in-law Keli Griffin, her loving parents James and Lucy Griffin, her Mother and Father-in-law Katherine and Martin Power, sister-in-law Rita Norman (and husband Dermot), sister-in-law Lucy Caines, and brother-in-law Jerry “Satch” Power.

Margaret, known as Marg, Maggie or Aunt Sis, loved to keep busy. She tended to her beautiful and vast garden full of vibrant flowers, and sewed the most gorgeous quilts anyone had ever seen. Her hands were rarely idle. She loved to take care of her family and gave the most tender, sincere “granny big” hugs. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her four children and their spouses, Shawn and Cynthia, Darrell and Cathy, Jamie and Jeanette, and Wanda and Mervyn.  She especially loved her role as Nanny to six grandchildren, Kelsey (Matt), Amy (Carlo), Travis (Elise), Tasha (Steve), Kali (Adrian), Stephanie (Brandon), and was a very proud Gran to four precious great-grandchildren, Rosalina Lupo, Sophia Lupo, Odiah Campbell, and Theo Cooper, who were all enamored by her warm smile and gentle voice. Margaret had a vivacious personality and always made friends everywhere she went. She was a strong, determined and fiercely resilient woman. She was loved by many and is missed by all.

Margaret is survived by her adoring siblings, Tony (Georgette), Rod (Madge), Ed (Dottie), Phonce (Keli, deceased), Aggie (Harold), Shelly (Darrell) and Shirley (Bob). She also leaves many nieces and nephews, other family members and dear friends, who will remember her fondly.
