ADRIAN JOHN BARRON

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Adrian John Barron at the Palliative Care Unit, L.A. Miller Centre on October 23, 2024, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. Adrian was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. Adrian is predeceased by his parents, Monica and Roger Barron of Riverhead (St. Mary’s Bay), multiple siblings, and members of both his birth and married families.
Left to mourn with broken hearts are his loving wife of over 48 years, Eileen; son Neil and his wife Rhonda; son Steven (Lara deceased); his two grandchildren, Kai and Alyssa; his brothers, Hilary and Craig; his sister, Cattrina; his sisters-in-law, Geraldine and Mary; his brother-in-law, Peter; his best friends, Terry and Joan; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends, too numerous to mention.
Adrian spent his life in the construction industry. He was very proud of his efforts, working his way up to managing major construction projects across Canada. He helped build homes, schools, hospitals, and stores. Most importantly, he built a family and group of friends to surround himself with over the years. He made sure that his friends and family always had the help they needed, whether it was home renovations, yard work, or more. He loved animals and was quick to befriend dogs, cats, birds and more. He had to stay busy and loved fishing, hunting, and berry picking. He also loved playing cards and would drop everything to have a few games of 120s or cribbage.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Randy Smith and his team, the team at the Cancer Centre, the staff at the Whitbourne Pharmacy, the Whitbourne Community Health team, his home care worker, and all the family, friends and neighbors that offered or provided support. Thanks are also extended to the very compassionate team at the Palliative Care Centre, and the exceptional nurses and volunteers who took excellent care of Adrian and the family during his final days. Our family will be forever grateful for all of you.
At Adrian’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Inurnment to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Palliative Care Centre at the L.A. Miller Centre.

Anthony B Murphy

Passed peacefully away on October 22, 2024, at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander, Newfoundland, surrounded by his children: Anthony B. Murphy. He was 97 years old.
Born on August 9, 1927, on Crawley’s Island, Anthony was a loving father to Trudy (Clyde Brown), Sharleen (Gerard Butler), Anthony, Nicholas (Julie), Craig (Clare), Karen (Christian Menard), James, Scott (Kim) and John (Dahlia). He adored his 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 72 years, Anita, his granddaughter Lindsay, parents, Thomas and Cecilia Murphy, brothers, Thomas, Anslem, Dennis, Alphonsus, Michael; sisters Catherine, Bridget, Doll and Monica. Survived by his sister Genevieve, (Genny).
Anthony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who planted the seeds of his love into all he met. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his humor, and his kind, comforting approach to others. He loved to read, fish and build model schooners.
An active volunteer in in his community of Long Harbour, Newfoundland, he held a number of positions between 1969 – 1976 including vice-chairperson and chairperson of the Local Improvement District of Long Harbour and Mayor. During his time in office, he also served as a member of the School Board of Trustees for Placentia East district.
He was a third-degree ranking member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of the church serving as a Minister of the Eucharist and member of the Parish Council for many years.
He spent his early years working away from Long Harbour to support his family. He was one of the first employees at ERCO when it broke ground in Long Harbour working there as a carpenter and foreman until he retired in 1985. In retirement he found a passion for building model Grand Bank schooners.
He loved being on the water fishing and could be seen on many a calm morning rowing his boat out to the “head of the island” to catch a few cod. He was a fine hand to split a fish but couldn’t filet one to save his life.
He was a bright light in our lives and will be dearly missed.
Special thanks to the staff at Oram’s Birchview Manor where he spent his final years, to the staff who provided care at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, the staff and management at Steele Hotels for taking good care of our family in this difficult time as well as Father Dohey, Father Hearn and Father Camillus.
