Mavis Jean Suley 1930 – 2018
On August 23, 2018 , our loss became Heaven’s gain on August 23, 2018 when our precious Mother, Mavis Jean (Smith) Suley, aged 88 years, passed away at Carbonear Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband George Suley, her son, Calvin George Suley, her sister Shirley Sheppard (Harvey), brothers- G. Randell Smith(Hilda), Harold Smith (Alma), and Arthur (Ted) Smith, and her parents Arthur and Daisy Smith.; brothers-in-law Joseph Suley (Isabel), Gordon Suley & Arthur Suley (Margaret).
Left with fond and loving memories are her three daughters Sandra Russell (Dereck), Marilyn Rees (Irwin); Rhonda Fowler (Calvin) and son Terrance Suley (Faith); six grandchildren Craig Russell (Trudy), Stephen Russell (Sarah), Gillian Suley (Andy), Terry Suley, Christopher Suley & Ryan Fowler. Seven great-grandchildren – Alex, Noelle. Emma, Leah, Ethan, Blake & Carly; also her brothers Kevin Smith(Bernice), Albert Smith( Doreen); and Robert Smith (Joan) and one sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Smith, and sister-in-law, Shirley Hollett. plus large circle of nieces, nephews, her church family and many friends.
Resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home, 33A Cabot Ave. Whitbourne, Visitation on Friday 7-9pm. Saturday 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Church Sunday at 2pm, with internment to follow in the Whitbourne United Church Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to her beloved church—Trinity United or to the Whitbourne Cemetery Fund. No Flowers by request.

  3. Sending my sympathies to Sandra, Marilyn, Rhonda and Terry and their families and extended family. Aunt Mavis was a kind and funny person and loved by all. I’ll miss you. I remember as a little girl how nice you were and treated everyone the same. God Bless.

  7. Mrs. Suley is very present in my memory. She was a true example of love and strength! Her faith was tested but she never strayed, she always wore a smile. I had many conversations with Mrs. Suley growing up, she was very kind and caring towards me. Mrs. Mavis Suley you will be missed but I know you’ll watch over us all. To all your family and friends left to morn I hope you find your peace and way through Mavis’s legacy.

  11. To the Smith and Suley families, so sorry to hear of Mavis’ passing. I always looked forward to our yearly visits to Markland/Whitbourne and spending time with our extended family there. Mavis was always welcoming, kind, and gentle. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Take care.

    Please accept our sincere and heartfelt sympathies on the death of Mavis. I have many fond memories growing in Whitbourne of our visits as teenagers to the Snack Bar and the warm and humorous greetings that Mavis always had for us. She would always tell me that she was my “Auntie Mavis” and that I had to be on my best behaviour!!

    Cherish all the good memories that she leaves for all of you.
