  3. Tribute to Nan Thorne
    October 17, 2020, revised
My grandmother would want people to remember her first and foremost as a devoted Christian who loved Jesus dearly. She wanted all her family to turn to Jesus.
She was strong in every sense of the word. I will always remember her telling me one day, when I tried to help her pull up some weeds, “You can’t do that. That’s too hard for you.” She was 90! So she continued pulling them up herself😊 Also, at the age of 90, she took a ride on the Scrambler at Thomas Amusements. What a laugh we had! She certainly liked to have fun! Nan was young at heart with boundless energy. She always looked very young too. We couldn’t help but wish that we all inherited such characteristics.
Nan welcomed everyone into her home. I can still smell her delicious soup and homemade bread and taste her sweet tweed squares.
I will cherish all of my fond memories of Nan and be grateful for all she taught me about the sacred institutions of marriage and family, which she knew were designed by a loving, wise God. I guess it’s selfish of me to be sad about her passing. Of course I will miss her hugs, beautiful smiles, singing hymns and reading the Bible with her, but I need to remember most of all that she served God well during her 99 years, and she is now destined to be reunited with the husband that she adored and with Jesus who surely awaits her with open arms.
Thank you, God, for giving us such an amazing person to call Nan, Mom, Aunt, friend, and so on. May her soul rejoice in heaven for all eternity!
Love from Charlene Thorne and family
