Frederick Stanley Joseph White
January 18, 1938 – November 30, 2022
With sad hearts the White family announces the passing of their father, Fred White of Norman’s Cove.
Dad passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Wednesday morning, November 30th at the age of 84 years. He leaves behind his children: Evelyn, Sandy, Russell (Karen), Jenine (Rick), and Jennifer (Aaron), and six Grandchildren: Lisa, Kayleigh, Keegan, Gracie, Nora, and Raela. Also left to mourn is sister-in-law Jean, his nieces and nephews, and a large number of extended family and friends who he treasured.
Dad is now at peace and reunited with his wife, our loving mother, Phyllis. He is also predeceased by his parents Fred and Rhoda Smith, and Fred and Gertrude White, his sisters Leah and Olive, brother John, brothers-in-law Ambrose and Ray, nephew Harvey, as well as parents-in-law Tom and Jessie Reid.
Dad cherished his family, embracing every moment with us. He especially loved his role as Poppy. Dad worked hard his whole life to provide for us and spoke often of the people he met in Millertown, Long Harbour, and Bull Arm. He was an active member of our community, and our Church. His love for life, strong faith, and passion to help others has made him a friend to many and loved by all.
A sincere thank you to the staff of both Placentia Health Center and Carbonear General Hospital for caring for dad during his short stay. Special thank you to Rev. Linda, for being here. We’d also like to thank everyone for reaching out to us, extending their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, especially dads’ neighbors and close friends, who are family to us.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honour of our dad, to the Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Norman’s Cove.
Visitors are welcome Friday, December 2nd from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Holloways Funeral Home in Whitbourne.
On Saturday, December 3rd, visitation will be from 2:00 – 9:00 pm at The Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Norman’s Cove.
Funeral service will be held at The Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Sunday December 4th at 2:00pm – Interment to follow.

A friend, a big brother and a good buddy thats what Fred meant to me. If there is ever a person to be received in heaven it is Fred White. Our memories of trouting, fishing, hunting, in the woods, and our little drives around to pass the time on miserable days are all my memories and i will cheerish for the rest of my life. Rest in peace my dear friend. Our condolence to the family, and to let you know that you are in our prayers as well.

Sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. We have known Fred for a long time and he was always a gentle and quiet man who was a joy to be around.
Rest in peace, friend
Fred was a close friend of mine especially the two years he and I travelled together from home to bull arm and most recently saw each other often
So sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. We first met Fred in 2004 when he and Calvin Peach were renovating our cabin in Spreadeagle. Since then we have seen him most years either in Spreadeagle or at his home in Norman’s Cove. We last saw Fred this past summer when he and his daughter dropped in at our cabin.
Fred was a kindly and considerate person, which is no surprise because his father, Fred Smith was of a similar nature.
Our sincere condolences to his family.
To the White Family, our sincere condolences on Fred’s passing.
I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. He was a wonderful person and friend to my dad, Tom Cooper. Rest In Peace, Fred.
I had the good fortune to meet Fred just a short time ago. He was an awesome 120’s card player, always seemed to have the ace of hearts. My heart goes out to him, his family and to ms. Beattie Thorne and her children who adored him. My sister Lori is heartbroken, he was a gentleman and had a great sense of humour. R.i p. Fred.

To The White Family,
Just noticed the announcement of Fred’s passing. We just recently made a connection after a long time. He visited me in Gambo last year accompanied by his daughter. I dropped by his daughter’s home in Norman’s Cove in August and had a 10-minute chat under brilliant sunshine in a lovely garden. He was such a genuine, friendly person. Condolences.
