Henry Thomas Brenton

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Henry Thomas Brenton, age 65 years, at the Health Sciences Centre on November 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Henry is predeceased by his parents Henry and Agnes(Harston) and his first wife Betty(Kelly) Brenton.
Henry was a family man, a devoted husband, a loving brother, father and grandfather. He will be forever remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife Effie, daughters Andrea(Kenny), Karley(Ben), Amber(Evan) and son Chris(Stephanie), the joys of his life, his grandchildren: Henry, Benjamin, Quentin, Sophie and Sullivan, brothers: Aubrey, Gerard(Edwina),John (Margaret), sisters: Margaret Shea, Mary Norman(Dominic), Joanne Brushett (George), Karen Brake (Fred), step mother Bernice Brenton, step brothers: Brendon Loder (Kimberly) Glen Loder (Shelly), step sisters: Lynette Loder (Cory) and Maureen Cloutier.
Also leaving to mourn with years of special memories; the brothers and sisters in law of the White and Kelly families, all nieces and nephews, and several close, life-long friends, who all meant so much to him.
Henry was actively involved in his communities. He served as President of the Federation of Labor on the Burin Peninsula, Chairperson of the South Coast District Council, was a member of the Marystown Fire Department, a member of the Green Mountain Lodge Committee and also served as a Counsellor and Mayor of Normans Cove/Long Cove for a number of years up until his passing.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to meet Henry was instantly drawn to his positive outlook, wit, stories and jokes. He will be mourned by many.
The family sends sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit of the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s for the care and compassion provided during this difficult time. In addition, the family would also like to thank the staff of the dialysis unit for their ongoing treatment over the past several years.
Henry will be resting at the Good Sheppard Anglican Church, Normans Cove on Friday November 24, 2023, from 11 am to 9 pm and Saturday November 25, 2023, from 10 am to 12 noon. Funeral service will be held at the Good Sheppard Church, Normans Cove on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11 am.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Agnes Norman (nee Williams)

It is with broken hearts and many beautiful memories that we announce the peaceful passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend Agnes Norman, nėe Williams of Long Harbour, Newfoundland on November 20th, 2023. She is predeceased by parents Joseph and Mary as well
as brother Leslie and in-laws Thomas and Alice Norman. She
lived a full life as a teacher and a mother. She was surrounded
by people who loved her and a family who felt blessed to have
had her in their lives.
She will be lovingly remembered and always cherished by her
husband of 52 years, Adrian; her children Alisa (Bernie
Thorne), Amy (Richard Kohli), and Alana (Tim Burke), and
daughter of her heart, Tracy (Thomas Cooper); treasured
grandchildren Ryan, Noah, Juli, Jack, Katie, Lucy, Andrew,
Aspen, Mary, and Adelaide; her sisters Mary and Sheila and
brother Doug, special niece Corrina Newhook, cherished
friends Frank and Cecilia Norman, as well as many other
beloved people.
Visitation will take place Thursday, November 23rd from 2:00 to
4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.   Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 25, at 11:00  am at the Roman Catholic Church , Long Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations may  be made to the Lupus Foundation .Special thanks from our family to the doctors and staff at Health

Donald George Hancock

It is with heavy hearts that we  announce the passing of Donald George Hancock age 60, He passed peacefully away on November 14th,2023, at Carbonear General Hospital. Born September 23rd,1963 in Toronto, Donald was a man of great kindness, love and unwavering dedication.
Donnie has now joined his parent Claude and Shelia Hancock , brother Raymond Hancock and Brother- in- law Wayne Cates, Also a dear uncle Delbert Madeley. Parents-in-law Francis and Ellen Pinsent.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years Ellen Susan Hancock, and their children, Tiley, Victoria (Barry), Jasmine (Jack) and Alex. Donnie was also a cherished poppa  to Gabriel and Theo Hancock. He leaves behind his sister, Deborah Cates and her children Beau (Melissa ), Colleen, sister in law Cheryl and her children Kayla (Anthony), Meagen, and Aunt Margret Madeley.
Donnie Will be fondly remembered for his strong family bonds and special connections he shared with his extended family. He touched the lives of his Brothers-in-laws Eugene (Barbra), Joe(Dawn),Ronald (Mary-Ann), Gary(Shelia) and Philip. Sister-in-laws Theresa (Garfield),Florentine (Dennis), Diane (Wayne). He was a loving uncle to his 25 Nieces & Nephews and adored his 15 Great Nieces & Nephews. Aunts and uncles who embraced him as their own Ann(Tom),Evelyn(Winston), Francis, Micheal (Gloria), Tom and Edward (Lisa). Donnie also held dear his close friends, including Shelly Foster, John(Karen) Comerford, Harold ( Michelle) Silveria, Paul (Lisa) Murphy, Christine (Neal) Gillespie, Pauline (Boyd) Forward,  Violet (Marvin) and Randolph King. His work family was a source of entertainment and Camaraderie throughout his life.
Donnie will forever be remembered for his loving nature, his unwavering dedication to his family and the joy he brought to those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who Knew him.
Cremation has taken place, with plans for burial to be held at a later date. The compassionated team at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne has been entrusted with the arrangements, ensuring that Donnie’s final journey is conducted with utmost care and respect.

Sylvia Gilbert (nee Gosse)

It is with great sadness that we the family of Sylvia Gilbert(nee Gosse) announce her peaceful passing at Meadow Creek Retirement Home, on Monday, November 13th, 2023, at the age of 82.

Leaving to mourn with fond and cherished memories, Husband of 63 yrs, Fred, Son Terry(Joan), Elaine(Dean) and grandson Joshua, sisters Phyllis (John) and Rita; as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

 

Sylvia lived a life filled with many social activities, specifically her commitment, dedication and  devotion to St. John The Baptist Church of Whitbourne. She will be missed by family, friends and all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Cremation has taken place and Visitation from all those who wish to attend is Sunday, November 19,2023  2pm -5pm and 7pm-9pm.

A celebration of life and remembrance will be held on Monday, November 20,2023 at ST. John The Baptist, Whitbourne, at 2pm. Interment will take place at the Anglican church cemetery at a later date.

John Cyril Hepditch

John Cyril Hepditch  Sept.24,1953-Nov.3,2023

               It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Hepditch. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. John is predeceased by his parents Vita and Cyril Hepditch, brothers Sandy and Dave, and brother-in-law Robert Clarke. Leaving to mourn with fond memories Valerie his wife of 40 years, his son Terry (Karen), his daughter Nicole (Brandon), and the light of his life his two grandchildren Hailey and Tyler.

               Also leaving to mourn are his brothers Ray, Frank, Richard (Bev), Cyril (Bernie), Steve, and sister Monica (Jeff).

               John will be missed by numerous other family and friends including his special friends Eugene Nicholl, Clayton Green, and Mike Denief.

               “You can easily judge the character of a Man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”

               John touched the lives of so many people especially in the Town of Whitbourne, where he was a funny dedicated bus driver, A committed firefighter for 50 years, he was a down to earth man whose greatest possession was his family. We will miss him forever.

               Visitation will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne Thursday November 9th, 2023 from 2;00-5;00  & 7;00 – 9;00 pm for family and friends. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.

Loretta Frances Drover

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Loretta Frances Drover (Nee) Penny who passed peacefully at home on November 1st, 2023   while surrounded by her family. Preceded by her loving husband of fifty four years (Albert) Maxwell, daughter Trudy and sister Aggie Jones.

Leaving to mourn are her ten children Glenda (Fred), Bill (Phyllis), Aggie (Ian), Wanda (Dave), Barry (Glenda), Tina (Ron), Bev (Richard), Rodney (Laura), Craig (Linda) and son-in-law Randy George. Also left to mourn are her brothers Andy (Effie) and Terry (Penny), her twenty four grandchildren, her forty four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A special thank you to her homecare workers Julie, Tracy, Taunya, Jessica, Rachael, Taylor, Penny, Angie and Cheyanne for giving her a better quality of life and enabling her to stay in her home.

Resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on Thursday November 2nd at 1:00pm (family), 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm and on Friday November 3rd 1:00pm-4:00pm. Service on Saturday November 4th at 2:00pm at St. John the Baptist Church in Whitbourne. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or St. John the Baptist Church.

Joan Piercey-Trahey

Joan Piercey-Trahey, aged 65, passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on October 17, 2023. Predeceased by her parents, David and Marina Piercey; Step Father, Robert Smith; and grandparents, Donald and Violet Reynolds and Alfred and Annie Piercey. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her husband Joe; step-daughters, Krista (Jonathan) Watson, Aimee (Pat) Silver, and Teri (Joe) Costello, brother David (Kathryn) Piercey, along with her beloved niece, Vasiliki. Joan will also be missed by her grandchildren; Ellen, Daniel & Isaac.

Joan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Memorial University in 1978, and a Masters of Education in 1992.  She was a committed and passionate educator for 34 years. She began her career in a one room K-11 school in Hatchet Cove, Trinity Bay in 1979.  She returned home to teach at Norman’s Cove Elementary in 1981, where she taught until 1997 when she transferred to Holy Family Elementary in Chapel Arm, and served as Principal from 2007 until her retirement in 2013.  Joan also sang with Coastal Sounds and the United Church Choirs, and volunteered  countless hours with the Lioness Club, Lions Club, Girl Guides, and many other organizations and causes. Joan was an active member of the community and her church, and leaves behind a wide circle of friends whom she dearly cherished.

Visitation will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne from 4-8pm on October 19, 2023. Funeral will take place on October 20 at the Anglican Church in Norman’s Cove at 2pm. Interment to follow at United Church Cemetery, Norman’s Cove.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.

Angus Albert Doucette

It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the sudden passing of our grandfather, Angus Albert Doucette who died on September 23, 2023 at the Health Science complex in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Angus was born in Quinan, Nova Scotia on March 2, 1943. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred & Elizabeth Doucette, and children Wayne Hindy, Loretta Kriegel & Kerry Kriegel and sister, Nancy Boutilier (Paul).

Leaving to mourn  his beloved wife, Anne Hindy of 50 years and grandchildren, Jason Kriegel (Dwayne), Paul Fellows (Roger) & Tiffany Hindy(Rory).

Siblings, Harold Doucette (Margret), Genevive Muese (Johnny), Ella Thibeau, Carol Johnson (Ebbie), Stanley Doucette (Faye), Sylvia Richardson (Donnie) & family members.

Best friends, Bill Lundrigan, Erie Cardwell, Les Culleton & Connie Brazil and many card game friends.

A huge thank you to all the nurses and doctors at Carbonear hospital and Health Sciences Centre and to all of his many friends & family over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his honor to be made to the Dementia Society of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Colin Galway

Passed away suddenly at Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, August 20 , 2023, at the age of 38.
Predeceased by his father, Ben. Leaving to mourn  are his loving mother, Clara and his devoted family.
His four sisters, Colleen Gillingham (Michael), Kerry Murphy (Daniel), Laureen, and April (Trevor
Pomroy), two brothers, Ben (Jackie) and Tony. Nieces and nephews, Lucas, Grace, and Maria
Gillingham, Andrew Murphy, Mackenzie and Madison Galway, and Sam Galway, large extended
family, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Thanks to all of the exceptional nurses, doctors, and other staff members of Carbonear General
Hospital. They were all so good and kind to Colin and kind to our family members who stayed with
Colin day and night. The staff went beyond any expectation. Colin will be forever loved and never
forgotten.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Holloway’s Funeral Home. His wake will be at the
Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm, Thursday, August 31st,

2023. Funeral Service on Friday, September 1 , 2023 at 2 pm in Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue.

Alma Pheobe Reid

Alma Pheobe Reid

August 22, 1929 – August 27, 2023
 
Reid, Alma (Legge)  age 94 of Chapel Arm passed peacefully away, surrounded by her family.
 
Predeceased by her husband Nath, Parents Absalom and Jessie Legge, brothers Edward and John, sisters Stella and Priscilla, Grandsons Jason ,Lucas and son in law Terry.
 
Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her children Lorraine (Harvey), Calvin (Pattie), Linda (Michael), Don (Barb), Muriel (Robert), Val (Mark), Nathy (Angie), Cathie (Rheal), Lorna (Ken), Elaine (George), 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.
 
Mom was a very active member of her church. She loved going to the ACWA meetings and church gatherings.
 
Another love of moms was her Boston Bruins hockey team. She spent many late nights up watching “her boys” and cheering them on.
A big highlight for her was going to Florida to watch the Bruins play and in 2011, she went to Bonavista to see the Stanley cup and to meet Michael Ryder.
 
Moms love for her husband Nath and children was unconditional. She always enjoyed family gatherings, going camping and tending to her flowers.
 
Sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital 7th floor, for their care and support during moms stay at the hospital. 
 
A special thank you to mom’s home care workers Jackie Crittenden and Terri Lynn Piercey. Your care and dedication to mom, didn’t go unnoticed. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you!
 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 29, 2023 at St. John the Baptist church in Chapel Arm from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm. 
 
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday August 30th at St. John the Baptist Church in Chapel Arm, at 2:00 pm. Cremation has taken place.
Inurnment to follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Long Harbour Rd.
