John Joseph Barron (January 17, 1942- January 20, 2024)
Passed peacefully away, surrounded by his family, at the Health Sciences Center in St. John’s,
NL on January 20, 2024, John (Jack) Barron of Whitbourne, NL at the age of 82.
Jack is predeceased by his parents, John Barron Sr. And Rose Barron (nee Maher), sisters Agnes
Cajipe, Marion Lotono, brothers: Garrett (Darry) Barron, Kevin Barron, Cyril Barron, and Jerry
Barron sister in law Sarah Barron brothers in law John Cajipe, Romy Licayan, and John Jewel.
Leaving to mourn his beloved daughters: Renee Cranford, Veronica (Monty) Petipas, beloved
sons: Gerald Barron (Karin) and Andrew Barron, his precious grandchildren who were the light
of his life Olivia Cranford, Connor Bureau, and Grayson Barron. Also leaving to mourn are
brothers: William Barron (Sandra), Ben Barron, and Greg Barron (Marjorie), sisters: Doreen
Licayan (Gene Laborie), Theresa Barron, Debbie Barron, and Ernestine Barron as well as many
nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dad will be remembered for his great love of music and exceptional musical talent who couldn’t
read music, but played only by ear. He will also be remembered for his fierce love for his family
always. He brought much joy to many people through his gift of music.

Visitation with the family will be held on:
Monday, Jan. 22 from 10-12am, 2-4pm, and 7-9pm and also Tuesday Jan, 23 from 10-12am
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday January 23 at 2:00pm at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic
Church, Whitbourne, NL

It is with a heavy heart that we, her family, announce the passing of our beautiful Mom, Gladys Gosse ( nee Clarke) in her 85 year. She passed peacefully away at the Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear. Gladys is predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Karl Sr., her daughter Fay Langer, daughter-in-law, Jackie, and son-in-law Ed Mercer. Her parents Lionel Sr. and Suzanna Clarke ( nee Dean) her parents-in-law Arthur and Mahala Gosse, Brothers Bill (Carol), Elwood ( Phyllis), Augustus, and Lionel Jr. Sisters Georgina ( Fred) Vokey, Gloria ( Stan) Burton, Ruby (Wayne) Capson, . Her in-laws, Edward ( Bella), Harry ( Dulcie), Robin, Frank, Pearl ( Aubrey) Brinston, Jean ( Ned) Goodyear, Mable Tulk, Sylvia Gilbert, Con Travers, Lloyd Gosse, Max Noseworthy, and Mike Greiner.
Leaving with the most beautiful memories, her children , Carl Jr. (Betty), Bella (Bill), Susan (Glen),
Marie (Ernie), Mike (Linda), Calvin (Bev) and Meloney (Joe). Her grandkids, who were the light of her world, Jeff, Roben, Gladys, Justin, Michael, Billy, Glen Jr., David, Stephen, Nicole, Robert, Frankie, Christopher, Michael Jr., Kayla, Scott, Alissa and Casey , 30 great grand Children, siblings, June ( Vivian), Ralph (Dale), Ella (Arnold), Olive and Millie her sisters-in-law Phyllis (John), Rita, Berenice and Eileen, Whilemena.
Gladys is also leaving behind a huge circle of extended family and friends.
Funeral Services are entrusted to Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne.
Viewing will be held Monday January 15, 2024 @ 10am- 12 noon, 2pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm
Cremation will then take place.
Service will take place at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne on Thursday, January 18@2pm.

Barbara Joan Piercey ( Hollett )
We are horribly saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Barbara Joan Piercey (Hollett) at the age of 65.
Eldridge (Reg) Raymond Smith
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, son, brother and uncle, Eldridge Raymond Smith. Reg passed away at the young age of 69 with his loving wife by his side at the Placentia Hospital on Dec 31st, 2023 .
Predeceased by his mother and father; Janet and Carl Smith, brother Dyke, brother in law Gary Pretty and great nephew David. Also, his mother and father in law May and Felix Pike, brother in laws Gerard, Chris and Bill and sister in law Sis Power.
Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are his wife Monica, brothers; Earl (Sharon), and Harvey (Floss). Sisters; Pheobe (Larry), Jenny (Darrell) and Debbie. As well as many nieces and nephews, especially his great niece Abigail Smith. As well as brother in laws; John (Shirley), and Felix. Sister in laws Loretta, Clara and Sally. Also leaving behind his special buddy’s Dick Newhook (Carol), Ed White (Connie) and Dave Temple.
Saying Reg loved the outdoors is an understatement, he spent most of his time in the woods, out in his boat or in is favorite spot at Coles Pond catching a trout.
Special thanks going out to Dr. Nbenza and staff at the Placentia Health Centre for the care that was given to reg.
Visitation is on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 from 10am-12pm and 2pm until the service at 3 pm at Holloway’s Funeral Home.

John Frederick Pretty
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Frederick Pretty of Chapel Arm
who passed peacefully at the age of 76, surrounded by family at the Health Sciences Center on
December 29th, 2023. Predeceased by his parents, Ellen and Thomas; his parents that raised
him, Victoria and John Albert; his brothers Theodore (Ted) and Glen; and his step-sister Estelle.
Left with cherished memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Phyllis; children John (Bernadine),
Perry (Paula), Tracey (Glenn); grandchildren Amy, Ryan, Jenna, Laura, Riley, Ethan, Maria,
Bella and Jack.
Also left with many memories are his siblings Patsy, Geraldine, Willeen, Brenda, Gerard
(Helen), as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
John was loved by all who knew him, time spent with him always left you with a smile. John
loved to spend time outdoors whether it be fishing, hunting, or camping with his family and
special friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May his memory be a source of
comfort and inspiration to all the lives he touched.
Sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Health Sciences Center 4NA for their
care and support these past few weeks.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 31st, 2023 at Holloway’s funeral from 2:00 pm –
4:00 pm. A service to celebrate John’s life will occur on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024 at 11:00
am at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Chapel Arm.
Donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Joseph’s cemetery in Chapel Arm.

Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit, Carbonear General Hospital on December 21st, 2023, Glenda Maxine (Drover) Barrett of Whitbourne, in her 69th year. Glenda was predeceased by her infant daughter, parents Maxwell and Loretta Drover, sister Trudy George and sister-in-law Gertie (& Bern) Bruce. Left with cherished memories are her husband of 52 years, Fred; sons Dean (Jennifer), Steven (Judy) and Jody (Angela); grandchildren Cody (Keshia), Taylor (Josh), Rachael, Riley, Jackson, and great-grandchild, Kai. Alfred James Piercey
Alfred James Piercey, age 88, of Long Cove, passed away peacefully at Carbonear General Hospital on December 14th, 2023. He was born on November 16th, 1935.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Marie Elizabeth Piercey and daughter Tena Higdon (Piercey).
Alfred was a man who was dearly loved by all who knew him. He was hard-working, caring and very comical. He was always telling jokes and tried to get a smile from everyone around him. He will be deeply missed.
Alfred loved his family more than anything. Leaving to mourn with his loving and heartwarming memories were his children Violetta (Garry), Woodrow (Violet), Valerie (Danny), Mike (Marg), Tena (survived by husband Pleman), Craig (Liz), Ann (Nelson), Chris (Chan), Shane (Marsha), and Jamie (Kim).
He will be cherished by his Nieces and Nephews, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, and the rest of the family.

Henry Thomas Brenton
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Henry Thomas Brenton, age 65 years, at the Health Sciences Centre on November 22, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Henry is predeceased by his parents Henry and Agnes(Harston) and his first wife Betty(Kelly) Brenton.
Henry was a family man, a devoted husband, a loving brother, father and grandfather. He will be forever remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife Effie, daughters Andrea(Kenny), Karley(Ben), Amber(Evan) and son Chris(Stephanie), the joys of his life, his grandchildren: Henry, Benjamin, Quentin, Sophie and Sullivan, brothers: Aubrey, Gerard(Edwina),John (Margaret), sisters: Margaret Shea, Mary Norman(Dominic), Joanne Brushett (George), Karen Brake (Fred), step mother Bernice Brenton, step brothers: Brendon Loder (Kimberly) Glen Loder (Shelly), step sisters: Lynette Loder (Cory) and Maureen Cloutier.
Also leaving to mourn with years of special memories; the brothers and sisters in law of the White and Kelly families, all nieces and nephews, and several close, life-long friends, who all meant so much to him.
Henry was actively involved in his communities. He served as President of the Federation of Labor on the Burin Peninsula, Chairperson of the South Coast District Council, was a member of the Marystown Fire Department, a member of the Green Mountain Lodge Committee and also served as a Counsellor and Mayor of Normans Cove/Long Cove for a number of years up until his passing.
Anyone who was fortunate enough to meet Henry was instantly drawn to his positive outlook, wit, stories and jokes. He will be mourned by many.
The family sends sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit of the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s for the care and compassion provided during this difficult time. In addition, the family would also like to thank the staff of the dialysis unit for their ongoing treatment over the past several years.
Henry will be resting at the Good Sheppard Anglican Church, Normans Cove on Friday November 24, 2023, from 11 am to 9 pm and Saturday November 25, 2023, from 10 am to 12 noon. Funeral service will be held at the Good Sheppard Church, Normans Cove on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11 am.
No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
