George Eugene Mercer

Mercer, George Eugene, Sept 9, 1944 – July 16, 2019.  It’s with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the sudden passing of George Mercer, loving husband, father and grandfather.  Predeceased by Mother (Dorothy), father (Shears), Parents-in-law (Miriam and George Luffman), Sister: Gladys.  Brother Shears, Brothers-in-law;  Dan, Al, Herb, Charlie and Nev.  Sisters-in-law; Dot and Bernice.  Leaving to mourn with loving memories; wife of 49 years, Elaine.  Daughters Corie (Dwayne), Jocelyn and Heidi. Granddaughter Amethyst.  Brothers Max (Betty), Johnny (Nora), Wendell, Dave (Gail), Glen (Susan), Darry, Paul, and Danny.  Sisters; Joan, Sues (Gerald), Ros (Frank), Barb and Shelly (John).  Brothers -in-law; Roy (Lillian), and Rob (Carrie).  Sisters -in-law ; Nancy (Ray), Judy (Frank), Jane, Grace and Erma. Special fur buddy, Riley.  As well as a large circle of family and friends and Co-workers from his 40 years with the Forestry. George loved the great outdoors, a game of cards and a good yarn in the shed. Resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne, Visitation on Wednesday, July 17  from 2:00 – 9:00 pm.  Thursday, July 18 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 18  at 2:00 pm from  St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Dad’s memory.  “Forever in our Hearts and  always in our memories”.

  6. There are no words to say how sorry Don and I are to all of you. To say he was a great man doesn’t say nearly enough. From mine, Billy and Brian’s childhood, to my own children, we all had a story about George, one that always finished with his big ole laugh. Thank you for sharing such a special man xx

  11. So very sorry to hear of George’s passing. Condolences to Elaine and family. Enjoyed our times when we dropped in our bike trips.. having a few laughs and having a shot or two…always made us feel very welcomed…hugs to all…

  12. I was saddened to hear of George’s passing. I had the great pleasure of working with George for his last couple of years with the Forest Service, and I doubt if I’ve ever met a nicer man. I always looked forward to chatting with him when he was at the Paddy’s Pond office and considered him a good friend.

    He will be missed by all the Forestry staff that had the pleasure of working with him.
