Our Family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear Mother. Elizabeth (Betty) Sarah Faith Cardwell of Whitbourne passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital, Oct 29th, 2022 surrounded by her loving Family. She was in her 80th year.
Predeceased by her parents Walter and Gladys Jones, her loving husband of 39 years Ernest John Cardwell, her partner for 18 years Ronald Cardwell, son-in-law Rob, brothers-in-law Stan Cardwell, Robert Cardwell, sisters-in-law Viola Sooley, Marjorie Wooster, Ruth Lundrigan, and great grandchildren Arianne and Alexandre Downing
Leaving to mourn with loving memories her three daughters, Lori Clarke, Beverly Gosse (Calvin), Arlene Cardwell-Jean (Marc), Son Ernie (Joanne). Also her sisters Daphne March (Hubert), June Dyke (Bert), brothers Arthur Jones (Debbie), and Junior Jones (Karen). Also leaving to mourn her sister-in-law Joyce Mercer (Dave), Joyce was more a sister to Betty and a special friend for many years, and sister-in-law Laura Cardwell. 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and an extremely large circle for extended Family and friends.
Mom was as gentle as a butterfly and absolutely loved the company of Family and friends. Always ready with that infectious smile or a funny story. She was passionate about her church, the choir, her lodge, the ACW The LOBA and approached each with a truly spiritual enthusiasm. Mom will also be remembered as fantastic with a pair of knitting needles, knitting, a lifelong passion. A skill acquired at a tender age she constantly heard “For the love of God can you put down the needles” and “Yes Bet I know, just one more row”. Over the years she created a treasure trove of socks, mitts, thumb-gluttons for dad, christening gowns, blankets, baby clothes and cherished heirlooms that will last for centuries. Most importantly she left her love and memories.

We were saddened to hear of Aunt Betty”a passing. I have such found memories of the summers we spent in Markland and the evening at your house with our parents playing cards. The men of course always cheating and Aunt Betty and Mom pretending like they didn’t know.

Betty, you were such an amazing woman. You had so many roles in life. A daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and most of all you were a great friend. Your kind heart has touched each of us. Your lovely smile was like the sun that brightened everything and everyone around you. Words cannot express how much you will be missed. Your time has come too early for us but just in time for you. May you rest in peace.

I was a coworker of Betty’s Son Ernie. I didn’t know Betty but knowing Ernie as I do, I’m sure she was an amazing and loving Lady! She had many reasons to be proud of Ernie as he was a credit to any family.
