Aaron Drover Mercer 1947-2023
Aaron Drover Mercer passed peacefully away surrounded by his family on March 15, 2023, at the age of 75. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Joseph and Isabelle Mercer of Blaketown. Parents- in-law, Absalom and Ruby Newhook of Norman’s Cove. His brothers and sisters-in-law, Aiden Mercer (Silvia), Eric Mercer (Betty) and Jennie Enwood. His sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Baldwin (Bill), Edith Williams (Ernest), Jean Antle, Beulah Worthman (Ralph), and Howard Newhook. Leaving to mourn, his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Linda Mercer. His four children, John Mercer (Corina), Neil Mercer (Judy), Juanita Mercer (Ray) Mark Mercer (Sherry). Ten grandchildren, Sheldon (Melissa), Christopher, Robyn (Jody), Jonathan (Kate), Laura, Brooke (Derrick), Angie (Tommy), Mitchell (Victoria), Philip, Sarah (Quinten). Seven great- grandchildren, Landon, Jaxon, Rayna, Noah, Tristan, Conor and baby Power. Sisters and brothers, Selby (Irene) Mercer, Shirley Hurley (Jim), Muriel Newhook, Sheila Keating (Maurice), Kevin Mercer (Goldie), Aubrey Mercer (Ruby), Howard Mercer (Cherry). Brothers-in-law, Roger Newhook (Beulah), David Newhook (Lori), Eric Newhook (Valerie), Phillip Newhook (Karen), Keith Newhook (Lori), Peter Newhook (Donna). Skip Antle. Aaron was an active member of the community in his younger years. He was a member of the Fire Department, Lion’s Club and the Good Shephard Anglican Church Vestry. He loved trouting, Tim Horton’s coffee outings with his brothers, and cars, new and old. He loved horses and telling his family all about growing up with them. Aaron was a proud man. His parents and siblings were no doubt among the people he was most proud of. He was always excited to show off the latest sweet treats his sister, Murley and niece, Carolyn had given him. Of all the things he was proud of, his greatest treasures were his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. There could never be a grandfather who loved his family more than Poppy Mercer did. He will be missed every day and remembered with so much love. “Although he is gone, we will always be together and his spirit will live on, in each of us forever.” “Grandpa, everything is changing fast, we call it progress, but I just don’t know And grandpa, let’s wander back into the past, then paint me the picture of long ago.”
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Norman’s Cove Anglican Church on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 7:00 – 9:00pm. Funeral will take place Monday, March 20, 2023, at 2:00pm at the Norman’s Cove Anglican Church.

The last time I saw Aaron was at his home in 2019 when I was visiting NL.
